The milk that is produced on our organic dairy farms is processed and bottled under our customers’ retail store brand names at our Platteville, Colorado milk plant. This processing facility is one of the only fluid milk plants in the U.S. that is dedicated to organic milk processing, and, thanks in part to our own high-quality farm milk supply, has won several quality awards since it was built in 2004.
What started as an on-farm milk plant to process milk from our first organic dairy farm in Platteville, Colorado, has grown into a state-of-the-art processing and cold storage facility that processes and ships millions of gallons of ultra-pasteurized milk each year. Aurora Organic Dairy’s milk is bottled for retail store brands, and is sold in the U.S. in all 50 states.
Our Platteville milk plant was designed and has been expanded with environmental sustainability in mind.
Low-wattage lighting, variable speed motors, robotics and heavy-duty insulation to prevent heat and energy loss are just a few of the many energy efficient and conservation systems in place. The plant has its own water treatment facility onsite, which allowed the plant to pretreat and return 75% of the water used in milk processing in 2016. Inside the processing plant, our lab is staffed with a team of quality control specialists who test milk at numerous points along the supply chain for freshness and food safety. These tests allow us to provide immediate feedback to the farms to ensure the best tasting and highest quality milk available. In early 2019, we expect our second milk plant, in Columbia, Missouri, to be operational.
