Organic Dairy Farms |
Organic Dairy Farms... The temperate climates of Colorado and Texas provide an abundance of sunshine for most of the year for our cows. Our dairy farms are surrounded by more than 6,500 acres of certified organic pasture. Our herds are pastured regularly during the grazing season in accordance with USDA National Organic Program regulations. We provide our cows with housing and exercise areas. Our farms are designed specifically to allow our animals to graze while being near shelter, milk parlors and herd health facilities. This configuration provides protection from the elements with year-round access to the outdoors. We believe firmly that the better our animals are treated, the healthier they are and the better quality milk they produce. We have on-staff veterinarians and partner with local large-animal veterinarians to ensure the well-being of our herds. We consult with leading animal nutritionists and train our herdsmen on key welfare factors. We continuously monitor our herds to assure their health. Our cows are fed a mixed ration of forages and grains with vitamins and minerals as well as pasture during the grazing season. Because we dairy organically, our milk is produced by cows that are not treated with artificial growth hormones or antibiotics. Additionally, no chemical pesticides or synthetic fertilizers are used on our pastures, or to grow the feed we purchase for our cows. Our farms employ many sustainability practices, including water conservation and composting manure for rich organic fertilizer. Through carbon footprint and life cycle analysis, we can better identify the natural resources we use and directly implement changes to reduce our impact on the environment.
