Relationships Create a Broad Network of Organic Farms & Services
When we think of “our farms” we don’t only think of the farms under our direct management. An organic dairy operation of our size relies on the partnerships we have formed a broad network of farmer-partners. In addition to these, we have a number of interdependent relationships with various other suppliers upon whom we rely -- for example, local businesses and participants in the infrastructure of agriculture.
To date, we have helped farmers convert nearly 50,000 acres to organic as a result of our purchase of organic feed crops. We have worked closely with farmers around the country -- helping them to learn organic methods and the certification process.
As a result of these interconnections, Aurora Organic Dairy represents the livelihood for hundreds of farmers and their families. In some cases, the conversion to organic for these farmers has made it possible for them to remain in agriculture.
Our reliance on other farmers and suppliers has created what we term an “organic economy” in which the livelihood of people and their families contributes to the organic way of life -- with better people, animal and environmental practices.
We see ourselves as one small part of this web of relationships, in which our efforts are supported by the efforts of others, and vice versa; all resulting in excellent tasting, high quality organic milk.
