Animal Welfare... Aurora Organic Dairy cows live in the temperate climates of Colorado and Texas. The typical mild, dry weather patterns allow our cows to be routinely outside in the fresh air and sunshine, and they are outdoors virtually every day. We have designed our dairy farms and facilities to put animal health and care at the forefront of our operations. Our farms are equipped with open housing and free-stall barns where our cows can come and go as they please. We believe that animals should be allowed to exhibit their natural behaviors, whether they are grazing on pasture or waiting to be milked in the parlor. The people who care for our cows are treated well too. The welfare of our people is an important part of our animal care program. Continuous herd health training and education support animal husbandry and job satisfaction. Although employee care and skills development are beneficial to our people, we believe they benefit our cows too. Our farm management team is made up of large animal veterinarians and herdsmen trained on key animal welfare criteria. Our dedicated animal care specialists constantly monitor our cows and manage the smallest details of their health – from early identification of illness to nutritional consistency and tailored stage-of-life appropriate diets. With such depth and experience in animal husbandry, our cows are provided with the most modern scientific and medical advances in organic livestock management. We host internships for veterinary students from around the world and have close research relationships with leading veterinary schools including Colorado State University and the University of Florida to help further the knowledge base of organic herd health and management.
